Jose Antonio Escalona de Molina
Head of the Corporate, M&A and Finance Area and of the Family Business Area
José Antonio is co-managing partner of the Firm and head of the Corporate, M&A and Finance Area, and of the Family Business Area.
He joined the Firm in April 2006.
Previously, he worked as a lawyer (from 1986 to 1995) and as a partner (from January 1996 to January 2001) in the Commercial Law Department of the firm URÍA MENÉNDEZ.
Subsequently, from January 2001 to October 2003, he worked as Deputy General Manager of Alliances and Acquisitions of TELEFÓNICA, S.A., being the legal responsible for the group’s M&A operations. Prior to joining the firm, from January 2004 to March 2006, he was a sole practitioner.
His practice covers a broad spectrum of corporate, M&A and finance law matters. He is focused on Corporate Law in general and, in particular, in the field of Mergers and Acquisitions, private equity transactions and corporate restructuring, having advised venture capital firms and national and international groups on numerous company acquisitions and sales, as well as on all types of investment and partnership agreements. He has also worked on debt issuances, project and acquisition finance.
As a part of his extensive experience in corporate governance law; he has been secretary of the board of directors of ENCE ENERGÍA Y CELULOSA, S.A. since July 2006, GMP Property SOCIMI, S.A since January 2024 and of INDRA SISTEMAS, S.A. from April 2015 to July 2021, as well as of several unlisted companies.
He has also wide experience in family business law.
In the teaching activity, he is currently director and lecturer on the Executive Master’s Degree in Corporate Legal Business at Centro de Estudios Garrigues.
